AMBEO 3D is a project that was first unveiled at the CES 2016 and it will bring 3D immersive audio technology that wants to be the ultimate when it comes to audio capture as well as reproduction. Sennheiser are the ones who will develop AMBEO 3D and they made this as a response to the growing interest in virtual reality, to provide an experience that is as real as possible.

Sennheiser have been manufacturing microphones and headphones since 1945 so their brand is synonymous to great sound quality and they still continue to innovate. The 3D sound they are currently developing might change the way we listen to music, games and movies because it goes beyond the typical 5.1 surround sound and even over the 9.1 system to offer the first actual 3D audio.

A virtual reality game called EDEN was used in their presentation and they said that the “Sennheiser 3D sound rendering engine used in EDEN allows a smooth transition between real-life sounds and virtual audio sources. Such an engine will be the future of 3D sound in augmented reality applications.” EDEN uses an algorithm developed by Sennheiser to transport the listener into different imaginary landscapes.

With CES 2016 they also introduced a microphone that wants to capture 3D sound and it was dedicated to virtual reality specifically. The mic captures sound in four quadrants to enhance the experience for live action VR and it will be launched in the third quarter of 2016 with software for it being developed in collaboration with the VR production company Visualise.

The modeling software developed by Sennheiser to work with their other equipment adapts to the characteristics of the room to transport you to another place and they took some of the popular clubs in San Francisco or Paris as an example to make you feel you are actually there. This permits DJs or EM producers to experience their tracks as if they were in the location where they will perform and the VTS plug-in will be released in mid-2016.
