Forged in Magic REFORGED
Forged in Magic REFORGED is a book designed to give you a large selection of new items for the Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition tabletop role-playing game and it began with a Kickstarter campaign that is now fully funded.
The developers from Paradigm Concepts planned to release a 160 page book with color illustration and softback cover but the stretch goals can increase the size, make it hardback and add more illustrations as well. Speaking of these, the artists are Pat Loboyko and Ricardo German Ponce Torres and they did a wonderful job with the aesthetics of Forged in Magic REFORGED.
Among the items you get to use in your campaigns there are new potions, weapons, armors and many wondrous items, each with their backstory and history. The lore comes from the Arcanis: World of Shattered Empires campaign setting, since that was created by Henry Lopez and is supported by Paradigm Concepts, so we should talk a bit more about it to know what the focus is.
Arcanis started in 2001 as a realm which twists the tropes of the fantasy genre through the moral ambiguity, politics and focus on tactical combat. The continent of Onara is where it is located and here the Coryani Empire (inspired by the Roman Empire) lies in shambles and has to compete with the nations of Milandir (inspired from the Holy Roman Empire) or Canceri (a medieval Russia).
The races of Arcanis are the Dark-kin which have demonic traits, the Dwarves which are cursed giants, the Elorii are the elves and they were made by the elementals along with the live spirit Belisarda, you also have Gnomes, Humans, Ss’ressen lizard folk and the Val which were the elite warriors of the gods and the caretakers of Mankind.
Now the fact that the lore of the Forged in Magic REFORGED items comes from the Arcanis: World of Shattered Empires campaign setting doesn’t mean that you can only use them in that campaign because you can integrate them with ease into any world of your own or in the Forgotten Realms setting, making them appear as wondrous items from far away.
You can find items by their land of origin through a table and the developers offered us some examples of what to expect. Forged in Magic REFORGED will probably be released sometime in December 2016. Check out their Kickstarter campaign for more info and let your friends know about this project if you think they will be interested!
