The Genius Guide to the Talented Bestiary for Pathfinder RPG
The Genius Guide to the Talented Bestiary for Pathfinder RPG is quite a mouthful to say but that didn’t stop the fans from supporting the Kickstarter campaign which is currently at an almost double sum from the goal they were asking for.
As the name says, this project aims to provide game masters with a simplified creature creation guide and it also offers over 200 new monsters to populate their world with wonderful illustrations. The Genius Guide to the Talented Bestiary for Pathfinder RPG was initiated by Rogue Genius Games and the Four Horsemen (Steven T. Helt, Stephen Rowe, Dan Dillon and Tim Hitchcock) which made a lot of role-playing products before this one for companies like Paizo, Green Ronin, Wizards of the Coast or Kobold Press.
The core of the project is a template which shows anyone how to create their own custom monster with ease or modify some of the existing ones to suit your needs in a way that it will be compatible with the Pathfinder system.
“The Talented Bestiary divorces creature type from basic statistics, so you can make a barbaric bloodthirsty fey as easily as an arcane spellcasting ooze. In addition, we’ve broken down every universal monster ability and unique monster ability found in the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game: Bestiary to create an intuitive point-buy system based on challenge rating. With this system, you can quickly and easily create any monster you dream of; from Fine-size CR ½ to a Colossal-sized CR 34.”
The approach they took was to think of monsters in a similar way to character creation so you can make spellcasting golems or many other unique threats for your campaign. You might think that you can do this without this guide but the problem is to balance them to their appropriate CR and this is where this book comes in handy. Check out a preview of some of the monsters to get an idea of what to expect here.
The Genius Guide to the Talented Bestiary for Pathfinder RPG will have over 400 full color pages and a hardcover which you can get for somewhere around $19 from DriveThruRPG. With the stretch goals they plan to add more options for summoner player characters, expand the templates, transform some of the most popular monsters into playable classes and expand the pantheon of daemons in the Pathfinder game. It is estimated that this will be released in October 2016 so until then check out the Kickstarter page for more info.
